The Rocket in Jacksonville

I believe my family will have to stick with Cooter Browns.......food here tastes nasty ....atleast if you gotta wait it needs to be good food that is worth it...very dissatisfied.

They really, really, really need to remodel this hole-in-the-wall. But I tell you what, who could beat that BBQ Salad - taste, portion size, and quality of that pork? No one that I know!

It smelled really bad you could smell bad meet and even flies the bbq plate that we ordered didn't even taste right the potato salad use to be very good but it's changed and the bake beans taste like pork n beans there wasn't much of our dinners eaten I don't know if it's new owners or new cooks

I’ve been going to the Rocket for several years. I drive 30 minutes to eat their Twin Burger Basket or Twin BBQ Basket. Outstanding food and service.

The food is pretty good, but the total is always way more than expected when going by the prices listed on the menu, and wait time is unreal... even when you call ahead.

Called in order at 5:00 for 6:15 pick up. I got there at 6:30 so if they had my food ready,cold fries and a mushy order of onion rings would have been my fault, but it wasn't. The food was not ready . So 30 min later he gives my $21.00 greasy bag. And I feel the fries....cold, the onion rings were a mushy mess. I take it back they recook the fries and onion rings while leaving my original order sitting in the window getting colder.... Needless to say I had wamer fries, warmer onion rings and cold sandwiches an hour later than the original pick up time. We won't be back.

We love this classic. We had the rocket burger and onion rings and honestly could have shared the meal because it's huge. Love the food and the staff was very nice.

This is the second time I've ate here and both times the bbq has been great

Best cheeseburger around! BBQ is possibly best in town as well (have one more place to try before giving them #1). They don’t take DEBIT/CREDIT CARDS! To be told is to be forewarned, so don’t complain! Really good food and prices are great!

first time here. cheeseburger and fries. delicious. had mustard, chili, and onions on the burger - Carolina style...

If your coming here to eat, come with an appetite and some extra time, I went on a Saturday evening and they were so absolutely busy.... Even during corona months.They food was phenomenal. Barbque meat plate, Mac n cheese wedges, okay, AND some of the best sweet tea I have ever had at a restaurant.

Eat there alot, great food, great people, great place to eat.

Excellent BBQ! 29 years ago my mom ate it once a week when she was pregnant. I just had it for the first time out of the womb. I'm hearing the sound of her belly as the food takes me on a subconscious thrill ride back to pre-birth. I have come full circle and realize why I love all BBQ so much. This is the place that started it all for me. Such great food.

It is a taste of home and I always stop by for a barbecue salad whenever i have the opportunity. The double cheeseburger basket should be on your bucket list if you have one

I love the old fashioned style BBQ, it absolutely Rocks. Onion rings and awesome fries. I can't drive by the place without stopping in. I wish the seating area was a little larger. But hey, the foods always been hot and great. Very consistent quality.

I have lived close to the Rocket for years. I love the Rocket, for hamburgers, that is. Their prices for the baskets are great. If you are in the Jacksonville Alabama area, stop and get a hamburger or cheeseburger basket. Personally, I do not recommend the BBQ, because they specialize in burgers. I recommend the "What A Burger" for big eaters. It is the best burger I have ever eaten. Just be aware that BBQ sauce is added and it could be heavy on the mayonnaise. Order accordingly. Cash only too.My biggest complaint is that it is a small restaraunt. Do not go during lunch hours (12pm) or peak supper hours (5pm). Do not get me wrong, this is one of the best places to ever eat. If you don't mind crowds, love great burgers, and don't mind waiting, this is the place to be. If not, call ahead, order it to go. Hold the sauce, light on the mayonnaise, and lightly cook the "beer battered onion rings". Added the onion rings for the lovers.

If you don't go for anything else, go for the onion rings. It's absolutely perfect. Evenly cooked. Perfect texture and taste. Just yummy I know the majority adore their burgers. But they've always came second to these😉

The food was fabulous. I came in from Colorado to visit family and was so pleased with the quality of the food and atmosphere. Good locals place to eat. The price was very manageable also. I recommend The Rocket to all who love meat and chicken.

Not sure what Stephen.L is talking about... Burgers,BBQ, catfish, BBQ salad, onion rings all are amazing... and.i mean AMAZING!

Great food BUT it's cash only and the wait could take up to 25 mins. It's definitely worth it because the taste is one of a kind!

We went during a Monday lunch rush. The service was quick courteous and accurate. I myself have lived In the Calhoun County area for many years, but suggested this restaurant for out of town guest. They did not leave disappointed one even said she was leaving Oklahoma and moving here for Bama Barbecue

Fries were good. Burger was ok but not what everyone made it out to be. 20 minute wait on 2 burgers and 2 fries and 2 small cokes... Almost 17 dollars. Probably will not go back for burgers but I still want to try the BBQ.

The most authentic Southern BBQ. Staff smiles and personalities exude Southern warmth and hospitality. A definite must visit and no matter what the "Must Try" for any "First Timer" is the "BBQ Salad", A 100% first time Triple A (AAA+) experience with long term side effects of random drooling as you find yourself craving from 100s of miles away and for months and years at a time. You WILL come back. ;)

The only ace to eat BBQ in jville, al. There's others, but I promise it won't be as good as the rockets.

Over cooked hamburger steak. Excessive wait time.(29 minutes). Cold onion rings. Staff was courteous.

My hamburger steak was not edible. Dry, hard, just plain nasty. The 2 BBQ sandwiches were ok, how ever the fries and onion rings were not up to par. Limp, tasted old or rewarmed after to long sitting under heat lamp.

Love the food from here. The barbecue is delicious. Fast service, great value for money and lots to choose from. Delicious!

I find it weird that so many ppl are complaining about wait times. Everything's cooked to order, good food takes time. The staff was polite, although I believe they could benefit from a little diversity. Overall, it was a good experience, and the food was phenomenal.

BRING YOUR CASH because this is THE BEST restaurant in all of Jacksonville Alabama by far. On a good day like today, you can smell the smoky goodness from either end of town. It doesnt matter which meat you would like because they are all great, chicken, beef, or pork. My wife grew up here and we stop every year when we visit. Always excellent. Sometimes there is a wait, but good things come to those that do. Absolutely worth it and it does not matter if you Roll Tide or represent War Eagle all are welcome. So come on down and enjoy the southern hospitality.
